CNS (or other V4) on NeXTstep 3.3?

I've got a NeXT legacy-box that's been upgraded to NS 3.3 and could use a
secure way of getting in without always having to head to the console to
do root-type stuff.

Unfortunately, it appears that CNS (1Q95 is what I have; is there a newer
release?) doesn't support this system; there appears to be *some* support
for it in the configuration and makefile setup, but it's not immediately
obvious how to get it to work. (I changed a couple occurences of
"m68k-next-bsd*" to "m68k-next-nextstep*" in various configure files, and
I fixed appl/rdist to set the rdist OS to "nextstep3", but I had problems
with makedepend not understanding the include file layout, and other
stuff.)

Anyone have experiences? Ideas? A convenient context diff to apply? :-)
I don't need it to be CNS, I just need some sort of K4 compatible login
(telnet or rlogin) to use from other machines on the net. Enough K4
libraries to compile an Amanda client would be a bonus.
