Our Moira (part of DECathena) generates the aliases with a "owner-<listname>"
alias for each list.   Here is an example excerpt from our aliases
file which is generated from Moira:

owner-santee: kdd
santee: mkots1::bourgault, ranger::wells, pcbuoa::beaudreau,
        xcusme::tomas, MKOTS4::HAGERTY, MKOTS4::VACHON,
        ranger::macintyre, kdd

(the double-colon addresses are internal DECnet mail addresses)

Everytime you define a list in Moira, you specify an owner (which can be a 
user or a list).  This is used to construct the "owner-<listname>" alias.
I thought the MIT Moira did the same thing.
