Well, if you can find an old 386 with 8 M of memory and about 500M of
disk (c'mon, IDE disks are dirt cheap these days), then a number of
companies will be happy to sell you FreeBSD on a CD-ROM for about $30.
All you have to do is add FreeBSD's version of eBones from Mark Murray
<mark@grondar.za>, and presto, you have an installation that probably
works, and is mostly compatible with MIT v4. (I say ``mostly
compatible'' because although I have experienced no compatibility
problems, I have not exercised enough code paths to be certain that
there are none.)
I would not trust a PC running DOS as a server for anything, never
mind authentication...
