To whom it may concern:
OpenVision Technologies has recently received permission to export its
OpenV*Secure product, based on Kerberos V5, to sites outside the
United States. We are posting this message to the Kerberos mailing
list so as to address the frequent questions on this topic.
Two parallel versions of the product exist, OpenV*Secure and
OpenV*Secure International, and the exportability status of both of
them has recently changed. The products are identical with the
following exceptions in the International version:
o End-user data encryption with rlogin, rsh, rcp, and FTP is
not supported. Kerberos authentication for all these
utilities and data integrity with FTP is supported, however.
o Slave servers are not supported. They will be supported in
a future release.
o Neither GSS-API nor Kerberos 5 programming libraries are
included.
Both products use full-strength DES for authentication and encryption
of the administration protocol data stream.
EXPORTABILITY OF INTERNATIONAL VERSION
OpenVision is permitted to export OpenV*Secure International to most
destinations outside the US under the Commerce Department's Export
Administration Regulations (General License GTDR or General License
GLX) without obtaining an individual export license. The only
requirement is that we receive written assurances from the recipient
that the software will not be re-exported. Under General License GTDR
OpenV*Secure International cannot be shipped to Iran, Syria, Libya,
Cuba, North Korea, China or the former Soviet Block countries.
However, OpenV*Secure International can be shipped to nonmilitary
end-users in China and the former Soviet Block countries under General
License GTX.
EXPORTABILITY OF NON-INTERNATIONAL VERSION
OpenVision is also permitted to export the full version of
OpenV*Secure to US-based companies and their subsidiaries outside of
the United States. Again, we require written assurances from the
recipient that the software will not be re-exported.
