George R. Champine was never *the* director of Project Athena, as what you
wrote above seems to imply. He was "DEC Associate Director of Project
Athena", which means that he was the senior DEC employee attached to Project
Athena.
The three people who one might legitimately claim were the "directors of
Project Athena" at one point or another are Joel Moses, Steve Lerman and Earll
Murman (in that chronological order). All three were (and are) MIT professors.
