I had this problem, as well as a couple others when trying to use
the BSD make to build krb5. As soom as I switched to GNUMake, these
problems disappeared and the rest of the tree built happily..

FYI, this was on a NetBSD system, I assume t'would be much the same ob
most 4.4 or even 4.3 based systems. We also have a Linux box built
from the same distribution, but I'm not sure what that required, as
I didn't do that one...
