Hello,

I'm interested in tinkering with kerberos as an
authentication/security mechanism for a multi-media
database I'm working on. Anyway, I have looked at
some intro type articles on kerberos, and would now like
to experiment with it. How involved is it to set up
a kerberos environment starting relatively from
scratch, etc.? Also, where is there an ftp site
to get pub domain kerberos.

Also, what is the latest version available, and how does
this compare to the versions being advertised by
Cygnus Support, is there any difference?

Also, I've heard rumors of a port to Mac and PC. What's
the status of these, and will these be pub domain as well.
Also, will it then be possible to have client server
systems using kerberos on a network with different
platforms in the network?

I am willing to figure things out on my own and get into
the nitty gritty of the programming, will I be able to
get by without opting for support from Cygnus? How much
time will it likely take to get everything working with
the kerberos library integrated into my code, etc.?
Days? Weeks? Months?

What would be some good reference material to study up
on?

My primary platform is a Sun Sparc 10, running 4.1.3.
I will be interested in connecting my database to Mac
clients in the near future. However, I will only ever
need the kerberos server to run on the Sparc.

Thanks,
