It's gotta be easier than this

I could not find this in the FAQ, and I'm new to Kerberos V5.
I just built Kerberos V5 under Solaris and I am having trouble getting
the sample server/client working. No doubt I am forgetting something
basic, but I cannot find an simple documentation which takes me
step-by-step through the setup process (help!)
Here is my /krb5/krb.conf:
ENG.PDC.COM
ENG.PDC.COM opus admin server
where opus is my local host name.
I have created a database with kdb5_create and used kdb5_edit to
create a sample/opus@ENG.PDC.COM principal.
When I run krb5kdc I get the following:
krb5kdc: Permission denied in replay cache code while \
expunging replay cache 'dfl:'
When I run sclient I get the following:
sclient: Can't open/find realm translation file while creating
server name for opus
What am I NOT doing correctly? Again, I could not find a simple,
step-by-step introduction to setting up a bare-bones kerberos
installation.
