V4b1 should build under RS/6000-aix-3.2.5 with the native compiler, if
you use configure rather than Imake. (It might work with Imake as
well, this is one of the three main MIT Athena platforms this year,
but I've never tried it, nor ever will :-)

Anything which uses the MIT DES implementation (V4 and V5) won't work
under native AIX compiler for versions 3.2.3 through 3.2.5 if you
compile with the -O flag --- there's a bug in the native compiler which
screws up the optimization of the "left shift" operator. In fact, IBM
recommended to us to not use the optimizer for anything at all, until
they can fix this bug. (We had to rebuild our entire Athena 7.7 RS/6000
release when we got this advice.....)

P.S. If you have this problem, it's easy to notice. The DES library
has a regression test, which will fail under this condition.
