Kerberos is not a "communication protocol"; it is a network
authentication system. You can use it to cryptographically verify a
network-user's credentials based upon a user's password. No
information, in Kerberos, goes across the network in clear-text that
could gain an attacker any useful information.

If you are really interested, I would suggest reading the papers on
Kerberos, which you can obtain via anonymous ftp from
athena-dist.mit.edu:/pub/kerberos/doc

Hope this helps
