Jonathan, my name is Mark S. Kadrich and I now work in the Data Privacy and
Integrity group for Lockheed Missiles and Space Co. in Sunnyvale Ca. as an
Analyst Consultant. Your discussion on policy hit home. We are in the
process of defining our distributed/centrally administered environment. Your
point on employee education was especially well received. I was the WAN
manager for the THAAD program (two long years) and when placed in a position
of reducing budgets, user education was always number one on the management
hit list. The problems this caused would fill a book. What this told me was
that management did not understand the benefits/disadvantages of a
distributed heterogeneous environment. It's the reason I left THAAD, it was
a losing battle (and I got a nasty twitch). A corporate policy regarding
WAN/LAN usage/implementation/access/control would have saved time and money.
The second thing I would mention is it has been my experience that the new
centralized admin. software does not adequately address security issues.
It's as if they are approaching the problem from a different direction,
reducing the admin. burden. A noble cause indeed. Is there a product that
incorporates both views? Would it be possible to get on your distribution
list?
thanx, msk
