krb5 K4 compatability vs bsdi

I have the krb5b3 package installed on a bsdi system, and most of it
worked well until I turned K4 compatability on. Now it still issues
tickets and such, but all clients have authentication problems. I
suspect an architecture difference, since the very same code works on a
sun, and pure krb5 (which uses ASN-1 to achieve architecture independence)
worked.

Anyone have any hints before I plow into it?
