Is anyone out there successfully running a service (telnetd, rlogind, kpopd,
etc) that supports both V4 and V5 clients?
So far I've been able to make the Sandia V5 telnetd successfully authenticate
and encrypt with the UNIX telnet client. No joy however with any V4 telnet
client such as FTP Software or NCSA telnet. I wasn't able to get even this
far with the telnetd packaged with V5b3 from MIT. I should note that my
platform is a RS-6000/250 with AIX v3.2.5.
At this point I'm not sure if my setup is right (missing /etc/srvtab entries,
principals in the KDC, etc) or if there are bugs in the code. A working
example of any dual V5/V4 service would go a long way to help. Real-life
setup examples in the documentation as suggested by Brian Kantor would be
a huge help.
