Dan,

Thanks for sharing your concern regarding my interest in soliciting
assistance in developing a list of companies who are providing distributed
security products. I believe your concern (cloaked in the mantle of "concern
for other readers of this list") is truthfully founded upon the fear that I
am engaged in some clandestine activity that may be in direct competition to
your own business interests. In fact I am building a list of said companies
to be used in a technology survey designed to assess the needs and
requirements in the area of distributed security. The list of security
product/companies will be used as part of one question in the survey. I did
not launch into a long diatribe about Atrium's security products or how I
intend to use this list simply because it did not seem appropriate nor
relevant.

My apologies to those whom I may have offended with my request for
assistance. As a means of allaying the concerns of anyone who might be
interesting in helping me I will offer to provide the final compiled list of
companies to any interested reader on this mail list.

Please email me your request and I will be happy to provide you with the list
as soon as it is reasonably complete.

Mr. Sullivan,

I wonder if all the readers of this list
realize that you are doing competitive market
research w.r.t. your own company's distributed
security products and are not, as many might
first assume, merely a beknighted user looking
for a jump start?

A bit of such clarity would be, well, clarifying.

I am endeavoring to put together a list of companies and commercial
products which offer security products for distributed computing
environments. Specifically the security application would encompass
authentication or authorization or auditing for a variety of
computing environments including netware, mainframe, OS/2,
    dos/windows, unix and dce/unix.

Can anyone help me out with some names or sources?
