Question concerning DEC authenticated Hesiod/DNS

If anyone knows the answer to this, I would appreciate it.
In the scheme that DEC uses to authenticate Hesiod/DNS via Kerberos,
do they authenticate every name service request or just the
dumps between servers? Or both?
