[24436] in Kerberos
Is setspn necessary for linux service?

I have a linux service and I'm using active directory for the KDC.
Everything seems to work fine in authenticating the service without
registering an spn with setspn. Is regestering spn's with setspn for
the linux service necessary? If so, why. Thanks for the help!
