If you are interested in an implementation of V5 that does not store
credentials in /tmp - take a look at OSF/DCE v1.0.1.
Well, yes, but DCE just moves it to a *different* shared-writable
directory; the questioner seemed to be more interested in something
which kept them in a place "more secure than" the file system.
