Suppose I produce an embedded system which has no fixed disk or removable
media, and provides a service authorized by kerberos protocols.
Can it have an EEPROM loaded with a key generated by kdb_edit, and have a
customer reproduce that key when initializing his kerberos database for that
service? Specifically, if I instruct the end-user to supply the serial number
of the unit as both instance and password, will he get the same key as I did
when I ran kdb_edit and subsequently burnt the EEPROM with the key produced?
If not, how can I get the embedded system started in the end-user's
environment? The service will provide a way to reprogram the EEPROM, but the
end-user needs to get the initial connection authorized, such that he can
change the password to his own liking.
