It's a lot of work; witness the fact that to my knowledge every
commercial vendor except for Microsoft has based their KDC on the
MIT code.

On the other hand, it is certainly a good thing to have multiple
interoperable implementations that aren't "genetically" related.

Not that I am aware of.
