Is there any information anywhere on how kerberos v5 provides forwarding
   of credentials?

Information on how proxies in Kerberos V5 might be used for delegation
can be found in University of Washington technical report 91-02-01
titled "Proxy-Based Authorization and Accounting for Distributed
Systems". The report is available for FTP from cs.washington.edu with
the name tr/UW-CSE-91-02-01.PS.Z.
