Howdy all,

A bunch of reports to is-home recently have concerned outdated
information on pages in the is/teams or is/services directories.
(While the new IS Home pages no longer point to these pages,
people could still use the search engine and chance upon them.)

Since fully revising the teams and services pages at this time
would be an extensive undertaking, I suggested at last Friday's
IS Home Page Team meeting that we should move the outdated teams
and services pages out of view from the general public, and
perhaps delete them altogether (they were generated from a
database anyway and so can be regenerated at any time).

We decided the easiest short-term solution would be to make the
files inaccessible from the web, and alert anyone whose web pages
link to these pages. Therefore, I have gone ahead and:

- Done a search using the Harvest engine to see who currently links
to any of the teams or services pages. There are perhaps half a
dozen folks (all in IS) I need to contact about the going-away of
  these pages...

- Moved the teams pages from is/teams to is/teams/old (but temporarily
left a few teams pages that are still referred to in is/teams, until
I can inform people with pages that link, or we can otherwise revise
  things.)

- Changed the access settings on is/teams/old and is/services
to "system:anyuser none", so that search engines can no longer
  find anything in these directories.

I will contact the folks who still have links within a few days to
clean this up.

Again, the files have so far not been deleted -- but they have been
made inaccessible to the web...

I'll let you know when the second phase (assuring pages don't link in
anymore) is complete...
