Hi Jonathan,
I thought Kris had already sent you mail on this, but she leaves work at
3:30pm, so probably just didn't get around to it.
is-home had sent you mail in the past as follows:
Sent to the swrt on 3/17
Jonathan: WS_FTP is fully supported by the Helpdesk last I checked.
Response: This item has been hidden because a representative from the Help
Desk has
said that it is not supported. Additionally, it is not secure. If there
are concerns about removing this item, please consult the Help Desk for
clarification.
In fact, the paragraph above was a paraphrase of mail that Chris Griffith
sent to is-home (and perhaps the swrt as well?) on 3/16
Chris's response: I don't think WS_FTP should be listed as a supported
product. I/S
has no documentation on it. And speaking for myself, I'm not comfortable
with encouraging the use of insecure file transfer software in the MIT
environment. Netscape has a built-in FTP client,
and we already support Netscape. Plop and HostExplorer can do secure file
uploads. I think that's enough.
As we discussed at our joint meeting a few weeks ago, is-home does not want
to make changes to the product pages until all interested parties have
reached consensus. So I would ask that you talk with Chris or Barbara to
clarify where the Help Desk stands on WS_FTP.
As for a page on Winzip, Kris sent me the following mail today: I can not
find comments, listing, request for WinZip in any of my emails or
documentation. It is not on the list of supported software that was
approved by the swrt.
Is there a product coordinator for Winzip? If not, someone from SWRT should
provide content for the page and Kris will be responsible for getting it up.
Let me know if you have further concerns, or want to discuss ways to refine
the process for making changes to the pages or creating new ones.
Regards,
Robyn
