Great! Let's make a decision! But who do we need to involve?
There are lots of people involved in making software available for
download. Since the appearance of the certificates-base distribution page,
I can't recall seeing anything from anyone suggesting that we alter all of
our documentation to point there instead of net-dist. I don't recall any
formal announcement to the MIT community about this service (we did say
something at the 10/99 IT Partners conference but i think that was to say
that it was coming). Did we have one?
Given the period of time that we've been pointing people to net-dist and
the number of people who regularly use it, I don't think that we can just
stop putting software there. We need to make it available through both
addresses.
Kevin, Jon, still have work to do on improving the format of the page and
possibly moving it out of the /software locker. We'll probably have
something within a few weeks, depending on how Kevin is doing as a new dad.
Theresa, can you shed any light on our transition to this new service? Has
anyone been working on a plan that we're not aware of?
Thanks!
ginny
