To: elibdev@MIT.EDU, dlicc@MIT.EDU Date: Wed, 12 Feb 92 13:39:07 EST From: Tom Owens <owens@Athena.MIT.EDU> We're holding a meeting on the strategies and architectures possible for the Tulip project (see below) in 11-401 at 10:30-12:30 on February 18. The Tulip project was conceived by Elsevier Publishing as a way to test the feasibility of electronic dispursal of their scientific journals. The pilot project, focused on Materials Engineering journals, will provide images of the published magazines as well as a "dirty ascii" copy of pre-published articles. Bibliographic data will be also be provided. MIT will be participating in this project with other universities such as Carnegie Mellon, UC, USC, and the University of Washington. THis meeting will essentially be a brain-storming session on how to make the Tulip project work in our environment. What software should be used to index the data, how will the image be delivered to the user, how will printing be done? Please come. It's an important project which could lay the foundations for a lot of this stuff we have planned. -- Tom Owens MIT Library Systems Office 617-253-1618 owens@athena.mit.edu
