Hello,
Im writting on behalf of hundreds of readers of the news group
misc.invest. We are working together to try and set up a Public
Domain Stock Data Base contiaing daily closing prices for about
7000 stocks going back about 5 years. We would like to make this
a distributed data base so that it is spread out over many nodes,
and use WWW (World Wide Web) or WAIS (Wide Area Information Server)
as a front end interface. Since you already provide an internet
ftp site, we were wondering if you would be interested in helping
this project by providing some storage space for the data base.
We figure that the total data base in ASCII form without any
compression should take about 300 Megabytes for the 7000 stocks
going back for 5 years. If even 30 of the hundreds of sites that
provide ftp service particpate, each would only have to contibute
10 Megabytes of disk space. However the amount of disk space you
are willing to provide is strictly up to you. And if at some
point you decided not to particapate any longer, let us know and
the data will be moved to another node. If you are interested in
participating in the PDSDB project please let me know and indicate
how much space you can provide. Also if you have any questions
please dont hesitate to ask. You can find out more about the
PDSDB by reading the news group misc.invest and searching for
articals with "PDSDB" in the subject. Thanks.
