Since I have not seen all of you in person this summer, the invitation
to my farewell party may have come as a surprise.
I am leaving MIT to re-enter monastic life. As of October 4, I will be
returning to St. Cecilia's Abbey, a cloistered Benedictine abbey on the
Isle of Wight, England, whose main work is singing the Divine Office in
Gregorian Chant (8 times a day plus mass).
My four years at MIT have been a delight, and it's all of you who have
made it so. When I came here, I barely knew the difference between a
transgenic mouse and the computer variety. I will always remember your
willingness to answer my endless questions - and to become happily
sidetracked in philosophical discussions.
The abbey doesn't have email (yet!) and correspondence is limited, but I
will keep you in my prayers. (It's a good thing prayers aren't dependent
on distributed computing.) If I don't have a chance to say goodbye in
person, thank you all and God bless.
Connie
