             CAUSE President

Issues related to networked information are of increasing
concern to information technology professionals. One way
CAUSE addresses such issues is through the Coalition for
Networked Information, a joint project of CAUSE, EDUCOM,
and the Association of Research Libraries. The CNI Task
Force Meetings held each spring and fall have met with high
acclaim, and the information that comes out of those
meetings has been invaluable to the advancement of our
understanding of critical challenges we face as we move ever
more steadily toward a national information infrastructure.

Now CAUSE and the Coalition are joining together to offer
an open-registration regional conference, the theme of which
is "Networked Information Access and Delivery: An Update for
Computing Professionals and Librarians," June 2-3, on the
University of Pennsylvania campus in Philadelphia.

The program will feature live demonstrations of network
navigation tools, such as Mosaic. Interinstitutional shared
access to commercial databases, standards for electronic
page image formats, comparisons of commercial online services,
and integrating multimedia from the Internet for campus use
will be among topics presented. Plenary speakers include Jim
Johnson, Vice Provost for Information Technology, Emory
University, and Fred Hofstetter, Director, Instructional
Technology Center, and Carl Jacobson, Director, MIS,
University of Delaware.

Fees for the full conference are $220 for members, $300 for
non-members; daily fees are $120 for members, $180 for
non-members. Members are defined as anyone affiliated with an
institution or organization that is a member of CAUSE or of
the CNI Task Force. Conferees may stay at the Penn Tower Hotel
on the University of Pennsylvania campus for $85.00, single
or double. For reservations contact the hotel, 215-387-8333
or 1-800-356-PENN.

We thought you would be interested in this opportunity to learn
more about networked information issues. If you would like more
information or to register for this event, call the CAUSE
conference line at 303-939-0315 or send e-mail to
conf@cause.colorado.edu. Complete details and a registration form
are available on the CAUSE Gopher server at
