At the elibdev meeting on April 1, we talked about the various approaches to
electronic forms that have been used within the libraries, as well as other
technologies that IS has been working on. In summary:
Grant talked about the earliest use of GEM for forms
Grant talked about the ideas of using Athena for forms
Carter & Bill Comstock talked about their desire to look at
Gopher+ and Web/Mosaic for forms
Andy Oakland talked about the Phaedo project technology
John Mess talked about his efforts within the Science Library.
A good exchange ensued on all of the above, and we decided on these next steps:
1. Since John's effort looks to be valuable, we need to schedule a review of
the technology by a subset of elibdev. The use of "obscurity security" will be
addressed during this review, and we will look into using AFS dropboxes, rather
than world-writable directories (thanks, Anne!)
2. A technology demo session will be the focus of our next elibdev meeting,
scheduled for May 6. At that time, we will have demos of most of the above
mentioned work...details to follow soon.
