We proved once again today that there are always many important, and compelling,
topics for discussion at the elibdev "lunch table". Although we didn't really
get around to a good discussion of the announced topic "Persistent Resource
Identification & Location," the consensus of the group was that we should
reschedule the topic for an upcoming meeting.
We did hear updates from several folks on the NOTIS project, the TULIP project,
Gopher and WWW efforts, etc. The NOTIS update kicked off a lively debate of
NOTIS' patron access support including privacy issues, ALA guidelines, MIT
policy, statutory requirements and such. I suspect that some day we will need
to return to this topic as well...
Anyhow, due to the ALA Midwinter conference, the February meeting of elibdev is
cancelled.
The next normally scheduled elibdev meeting will be March 4 in E40-302, the
Visitors' Center. The meeting will be devoted to a demo of one or more NOTIS
Horizon clients (and possibly hitting own servers??). As we must always remind
our viewers, the clients we will be seeing will be beta software, and may be
quite different from the software that we ultimately put into production. Due
to the agreements under which we have obtained this software, these demos will
be for MIT personnel only. We will be sending out a reminder later in February.
Thanks,
Tim McGovern & Tom Owens
