Next elibdev Meeting

From: tjm@MIT.EDU (Tim McGovern)
To: elibdev@MIT.EDU
As the Distributed Library Initiative continues, we've identified a
few small problems on the horizon that will soon need to be solved. Examples
of these include: how to provide access to library services on Athena to
patrons who are MIT users, but lack an Athena account (say, research labs).
A closely allied problem caused by licensing restrictions: what services can
be pre-login and what services cannot? Can some services be pre-login at
some places (say, in the libraries), but not others.
At the next elibdev, we'd like to identify some of these problems and discuss
methods for resolving them. We will try to use the first one -- providing
Athena-based library services to MIT personnel without Athena accounts -- as a
model for thinking about the others.
Tom Owens and I would like to convene elibdev next Friday, E40-382, 12 noon,
format=brownbag. We recognize this is short notice, so if you're unable to meet
on that day/time, please r.s.v.p., and if lots of folks can't make it, we'll
look for another timeslot.
Thanks,
Tom Owens, Libraries
