Sorry about the late reminder and abstract.
(I just got back from vacation, and I am composing the talk even now.)
Abstract
In this talk I will report on my experiences with the BRS/Search
database engine, the Z39.50 information retrieval protocol, and the
Willow library client program. I will explain how they fit into a plan
to bring our own local copy of the Medline database to the MIT user
community in a package that is reliable, easily maintained, powerful,
and fast. I will tell how this is the stepping stone to offering other
services from our own local databases such as the MIT Library Catalogue,
and offering access to remote databases around the world such as the
OCLC Union Catalogue, and electronic journals. I will briefly touch on
how this work fits in with past and future developments in WAIS, the
Wide Area Information Service.
