I received the following mail regarding the Eudora installer:

Subject: Eudora 3.02 installer

Hi Scott,

I want to let you know that a client called and reported that the Eudora
3.02 installer did this to him (over Tether):

- Trashed the old KClient extension
- Threw him off the ftp server saying something about not allowing more
than 20 users at a time.

This would have left him unable to use his old Eudora, but fortunately he
was clueful enough to check his trash can and move the KClient ext'n which
was put into there back into his extensions folder and reboot.

Could this have happened to him that way? If so, it seems like something
that should be fixed if you get a chance.

Thanks!!!!!!

Yes, the Eudora installer currently looks for old KClient extensions, moves
them to the Trash, and then tries to install a new KClient control panel.
As you say, if that installer fails to download and install the new
KClient, the user won't be able to use Eudora unless they move the KClient
extension back into the System Folder.

We'll look into the feasibility of reversing those operations - download
new KClient first and then move old ones out - and let you know (we have to
see if it can be done and if it is, make sure it has no other side
effects). In the meantime, please mention this possibility to the rest of
the Help Desk staff so that they can tell the less clueful users how to fix
the problem.

Unfortunately, in the future we may not be able to avoid this sort of
thing. For now, we're replacing an extension with a Control Panel, so the
new file isn't going into the same place as the old file. If we were
replacing an out of date Control Panel with a new version of the same
Control Panel, the new file would be downloaded on top of the old file, so
moving the old file out of the way first and then attempting the download
will be our only option to preserve the original file.

Thanks for the suggestion,
