Hi,

Some more information is needed before I can really offer an opinion.

By "I get thru all the preliminary screens up to the one which describes
the S/W download times" do they mean the read me? In which case they're
not even getting to the main installer window. Or do they mean they get to
the progress bars which show the download times, which means they've
started the install?

I'd also suggest:

* download a new copy of the installer and try it;
* reboot with only system extensions (and any needed to do Tether) turned
on and try it;
* try increasing the memory allocated to the installer.

And how much memory do they have? (The assumption that if they can run
Netscape they should have enough sounds good, but you never know.)
