Hi,
We have found two bugs in the Macintosh Eudora 3.02 installer,
one of which has been confirmed and fixed, the other we are
investigating further.
1) If you did a _clean_ installation of the Eudora 3.02 installer
before this afternoon (4/18), the Check Spelling will incorrectly
be turned on automatically. If selected, Eudora will try to connect
to a machine on the network (guess who's). Eudora hid away
an alias resource in its settings file.
This has been corrected on the server such that if you do a clean
install with either of the installers released (r1 or r2.6) now, you
will not see the problem.
If the problem is encountered, the solution is to select
"Add Word Service..." from the Edit menu and locate the Spellswell
application (which is installed in the Spellswell folder inside
the Eudora application's folder).
A note of this has been made on the Macintosh Eudora Installer
version history page. http://web.mit.edu/installers/www/eud_3_rev_history.html
To reiterate, this only happens on a purely clean install. If you have
an existing Eudora Settings file, you will not see this behaviour.
2) A potential bug in the Eudora Installer Assistant has been
identified. At the present time we have only seen it happen with
prerelease versions of Mac OS 8. This problem has not been reported
under current systems yet so it probably has little impact to the
existing user base. We are currently evaluating this problem.
The behaviour is such that the EIA will present a blank window and then
cause a bus error if you do anything. Please send mail to installers@mit.edu
if you encounter a system where this behaviour is repeatable.
