I'm not sure who to send this to, so I thought this list would surely hit
somebody that is appropriate.
The w3c is having trouble using the new installer for Coeus. Specifically,
it fails when it gets to the FTP protion to get the Oracle installer. My
feeling is that their machines aren't registered with MIT's main DNS
servers since they run their own DNS server and assign their own IP address
within the 18.29.xx.xx range.
The specifice machine name/ip is: clam.w3.org/18.29.0.151
hostinfo from the Athena prompt correctly identifies the machine but I'm
not sure that's a full-proof method (i.e., perhaps the installers use a
specific DNS server and don't check out all DNS servers??)
When the user tried to download Coeus, they were asked to present
certificates. While this works for the web, to my knowledge, certificates
won't/can't be presented during an ftp process. So, how do certificates
solve the problem of those that might try to download MIT software from
other ISPs or those machines with 18.xx.xx.xx IP addresses that aren't
registered with the central DNS servers?
