I have one other minor observation on the tnsnames.ora file....

At times when I've downloaded a new tnsnames.ora file for some desktop
machine around campus, I've encountered a file that was moved via a binary
transfer instead of an ASCII transfer. While it is true, the file works
fine as far as SQL*Net is concerned; it is difficult to edit since the
CR/LF has not been handled correcly. Can we make sure we get a plain text
file out there for those of us that do need to manually modify it from
time-to-time?

Sorry, I don't know if it was net-dist or a web page that had the problem.
But, if someone is looking into having a single source for tnsnames.ora,
then now might be a good time to double check this too.
