Hi,
I am a consultant with the helpdesk, and I have encountered many problems
with the MINK.EXE installer. Many people have called and said they were
getting all sorts of unusual errors when they tried to use it. In every
case, after telling them to delete the files and put in the old Kerberos
files manually, the problems have been solved. In addition to our clients
problems, I myself had a problem, which also was solved by reverting to the
old Kerberos Files.
On my system (runnung NT 4), I ran the mink installer. After doing so, I
started Eudora. when I went to check for mail, I got a time out of bounds
error. I checked that the time was correct, and tried again. no luck. I
entered the tz variable, set it to edt5edt and restarted Eudora and it
worked. I then closed Eudora, and restarted it, just to ensure it was not a
fluke, and unfortunately, it was. I got the same error. I then set tz to
null, and tried again, and it worked again. I restarted Eudora, and tried
again, and once again it failed. after this, I decided to remve the "new"
files and reinstall the "old" files, and was releived that the stable, old
Kerberos files worked fine, without all these problems.
Some other errors we have encountered are "can't sent request (send to
kdc)" even though all settings and file locations, etc are correct; time
out of bounds is also common. Other errors have occured, which were all
easily solved by using the old Kerberos, Manual install.
Perhaps you could write an installer which installs the old Kerberos files
into the necessary directories until you have a stable version of the new
files.
