8/19/97 @2:25:35 PM - disa_t - This was a long call: 2:16....I'll try to sum up.
Eudora (v2.2) was working fine to begin with. Mr. Ali ran first the Mink installer (last mod: 6/2/97) then the HostExplorer installer (last mod: 5/22/97). At that point, he tried to use the 'Athena_Dialup' HExp profile, and got an "illegal operation" error msg. He tried to check his mail in Eudora, but got a "dll file not found" msg.
Now, during the call:
-uninstall HostExplorer (HE) and re-install HE - no change
-delete Eudora folder (retain separate copies of mbx files) and try HE - no luck
-run HE uninstaller and install Eudora (v3.0) (Welty installer, last mod: 8/4/97). Default installation to C:\Temp. - Eudora can't find wshelper.dll
-downloaded and replaced wshelper.dll in C:\net\mit - nope
-moved C:\wshelp32.dll to C:\net\mit - nope
-move both 16- and 32-bit versions of WSHelper to C:\Eudora - nope
-manually remove Eudora folder, install Eudora (v2.2) (he had the installer already downloaded from previous working installation) - Eudora can't find kclient.dll
-download (no pre-existing version on machine) kclient.dll to C:\net\mit - nope
-checked autoexec.bat file PATH statement: found '\net\mit' and 'C:\NET\MIT' in the same line...removed former entry, saved, rebooted - still Eudora can't find kclient.dll
-Kris sugg. remove all kerberos files from everywhere and run the latest mink installer, which installs all files to C:\Mit. So we did a sweep of C:\net\mit, C:\, C:\Windows, and also removed leash.ini (excluding stuff specifically related to Windows LPR spooler). Then we went to do an install of mink, but the default install goes to C:\net\mit - which seems like an older installer...so Kris sugg. that I send email to the Installer group...
I explained the sitution to the client, he'll make alternate arrangements for his email for a few days, but then we should give him a call when we have more info.
