Hi all,
This is swapping an RT for an RT. The names, IP addresses and locations are
not changing with respect to each other. I don't need to do anything on my
end. I will however fill out a green and give it to Jerry.
Steve

Subject: moving color head of RT "kahn" from building 7 to building 9
Date: Wed, 08 Jul 92 16:20:11 EDT
From: Rob Smyser <smyser@Athena.MIT.EDU>
Hi,
we need the color head of the RT kahn to move from 7-427 to 9-551. (The X
servers on color vaxstations are all dying under new versions of various
programs but the color RT servers are still working.)
The simplest approach is to move the boxes of Kahn and M9-551-4, so the color
hardware is in 9-551 and the mono in 7-427. Change the name and address in
/etc/athena/rc.conf on both machines and turn them on. You would need to
switch the serial numbers associated with each machine name.
The second simplest is to open each box, swap the display adapters, and move
the monitors. The serial numbers and network addresses stay the same, only
the innards move around. Switching display adapters is a relatively trivial
act.
I recommend moving the boxes without opening them up and editing rc.conf.
Whadda youse guys tink?
Rob
