I shutdown CECI006 this afternoon. I reset is it a few times today,
and each time it failed to bring up a login window (it did start X,
however) Finally, I rebooted it and watched the messages as it
rebooted. It complained about problems with bitmaps, but said they
were salvaged. it then had an ethernet failure, and kept complaing
about it. I checked the plug on the back of the computer, but it was
okay. I then looked at the transciever connected to the computer, and
the lights were out. I checked the to see that the connection was
okay. The transciever was extremely warm to the touch. It worked
intermitently, and by shaking it whenver the lights went out, got X to
come up with the login window. I then logged in as root and shutdown
the computer. (The transciever is sitting on the desk next to the
computer)

Finding ceci006: ceci00 is on the 3rd floor of e40, in room 370 (the
big open area at the end of the building) It turned off. (It's a
desktop RT with color monitoe. it has 2 videodisc players ontop of
it) It is between ceci007(anther color RT) and carolingia (a micro-vax
II with and identity crisis).

Carolingia is also having troubles. it reapeatedly complains about
"No Hesiod Information Available for Carolingia". the rc.conf on
carolingia claims an IP adderss of 18.172.0.114 (which the hostinfo
command returns as E40-370A-3.mit.edu) when a user (like me) attempts
to log in, it errors and tells to contact athena operations. It will
let you shut down the window system and log in as root.
