Hi! I hope that you can help me; I was cleaning up my account on athena,
and I did a 'more' of what turned out to be an executable. All output
(like my prompt) became gibberish. I knew something was wrong, and I
logged out and back in again.
I found that when I 'ls'ed the directory that I was working in, I got
the following error message:
. not found (permission denied)
which is bad, as I had 20+ files in that directory.
Then I poked around my other directories, and got the same problem.
When I did a 'cd ..' from any of these subdirectories I went to mit/
which is clearly wrong.
I tried to write to you from my account on athena, but I get the
following errors:
comp: unable to determine working directory: getwd: can't stat .,
continuing...
comp: unable to create /mit/tsmaster/draft: Permission denied
I don't know how much of my account was corrupted, I don't know how
much was really important; I believe that most of it was not easily
replacable.
What can be done so that some or all of my files can be retrieved, or
at the very least that I can send mail from my athena account?
