hi.
there's something wrong with rvc again... i ran it on sunday and it was
well-behaved but when i ran it tonight (tuesday night), it had problems
accessing the boston disc. i got error messages to this effect but i
didn't get a chance to go into detail. It basically did not define any
contexts since it had a disc error and could not find the boston volumes.
i went on to reboot the machine to see if that would change anything
but the reboot went awry as well. i got the following messages on the
vt100 terminal:

and then this message repeats over and over. i unhooked the vt. right now,
the screen is black except for a blinking cursor. i left a note on the
keyboard telling people not to use it. maybe it'll manage to reboot
sometime tonight... but could you please forward this to the
appropriate person who may know what's going on and what it's trying to
say? i called athena hardware hotline but no one was in. i left a
message describing my problem on rvc and told them to get in touch with
you at 8-5596 if they knew anything or could help.
once the workstation is up i'll go into more detail with the disc
errors, or better yet, maybe they won't happen anymore...
i will try getting in touch with you later tomorrow (wednesday)...

ps. if there's a demo today and the disc works and the workstation
comes up, i placed the original rvc in /mit/shawmut... just type
/mit/shawmut/rvc to run it.
or else, type ~/newsys/src/rvc and you'll get my version, but my
additions shouldn't affect any demo adversely...

Rita, or whoever - I spoke with Rita earlier & said I would forward mail
regarding symptoms. RVC is a microVax II w/ parallax boards & lives
in 7-304. Can you check it out? Thanks, Merrill Smith
