The machine boots correctly until it tries to
start the xlogin program (you know, the X thing
with the login and passord...) then it dies for
a long time and fails finally with a message:
"unable to start xlogin, using console login
instead". We have gotten this message in the
past when the mouse doesn't work.
Yesterday there was a massive static discharge
from someone's hand through the mouse. I would
say the mouse killed itself then. I think it
hasn't worked since.
The dogtags of this machine read:
