The server to the printer 'crl' has been exhibiting the following problem:

when one job is already in the queue, new jobs are truncated to zero
 	length.

For example,

M9-551-3.MIT.EDU... unable to get hostname for local machine m9-551-3
crl is ready and printing
Rank Owner Job Files Total Size
active phils 15 root1.ps 1797867 bytes
1st smyser 0 /tmp/ES000858 0 bytes
olmsted%

and also,

M9-551-3.MIT.EDU... unable to get hostname for local machine m9-551-3
crl is ready and printing
Rank Owner Job Files Total Size
active phils 15 root1.ps 1797867 bytes
1st smyser 0 /tmp/ES000858 0 bytes
2nd smyser 1 /tmp/ES000861 0 bytes
3rd smyser 2 /tmp/ES000863 0 bytes
olmsted%

Because it only happens when someone else is already printing, I don't
hear about the problem very often because most people write it off to randomness.

I don't have the slightest idea what to do about this, so I invoke the
printer gods on mount e40. O Great and Powerful BrianMelans, hear my prayers...

Thanks!
ROb

It seems impossible to put more than one job on the queue without
subsequent jobs being
truncated to zero length. It also seems to print jobs rather
randomly, or I maybe imagining
things. This is a pain.
