I am not sure if you are the correct people to handle my problem, but here goes.
I have two acounts at MIT: one on ATHENA and one on the LIDS network which is
associated with the lab in which I work. Now, I know how to get to LIDS from
athena via the attach command, and this works fine. However, when I am on a
LIDS machine (usually DUCRU), and try to either telnet or rlogin to the machine
PETRUS, which is in my advisor's office and has access_on, I get the message
"Warning: Using local home directory," and am basically unable to inc mail or
have a normal session. This phenomenon began last week around the time the
network was having problems in the building 35/37 area which is where both
DUCRU and PETRUS are located. Also,
1) This problem does not crop up with other people using DUCRU and wishing to
login to PETRUS.
2) When I try to telnet into a different ATHENA machine which has access_on, I
am able to run a normal session.
I was wondering how this situation can be fixed because it is very useful to be
able to get to PETRUS from DUCRU for me. If you are not the people to handle
this, could you direct me to an appropriate source of information.

Thank you,

Eric Miller (elmiller@athena.mit.edu)
