I have a Maxon 2400 modem which was paid for by Athena for me to
work from home last summer. I haven't used it since then, and now
that I've plugged it into the vt240 I just brought up home in order to
work from home, I've discovered that the modem refused to connect at
2400 baud.

The first time I plugged in it worked once, and then stopped, and
then worked sporadically a couple of times, and hasn't worked since.
I'm currently working at 1200 baud, which appears to work fine.

Also, at any baud rate, the modem doesn't recognize when the line is
ringing.

I have two questions -- first of all, since Project Athena paid for
this modem, it is, in effect, Project Athena's modem. Therefore, my
first question is, if I bring it in with all of the accompanying
manuals, paperwork, etc., and give it to you guys, can you deal with
trying to get it fixed?

My second question is, are there any other 2400 baud modems
available right now? Twenty-four hundred is bad enough -- I cringe at
the thought of working at 1200 baud.

  Thanks,

  jik
