Subject: Vandalism in Room 1-101J
I accompanied John to Room 1-101J. There were 40-60 pairs of wires
pulled loose from the distribution frame, and several more pairs pulled
loose from the data IDF, further up on the wall. Although John has
straightened out most of the wires and has put several phones back in
service, it's still evident that the wires were previously crimped, and
the ends of the wires which were previously punched down were in most
cases completely stripped.
Officer Sanders of Campus Police checked the door, and found that it can
be opened even when locked. Officer Sanders also noticed a large
footprint on the door, indicating that the door may have been forced
open. I have reported this to Mary Mullen; she told me that the
locksmith will fix it today.

Subject: Vandalism Report - Building 1 - BDF/IDF Closet 101J

Mort:
I just finished talking with John Collins regarding the incident in
Building 1. As background, Louise began getting no dial tone reports
from offices located in Building 1 when she opened up the Help line this
morning. After she received several reports she suspected there was a
more general problem and she paged John to dispatch him to look at the
the local telephone closet. When John arrived at 1-101J, the BDF/IDF
location for the first floor, he found the door closed and locked. He
used his 320S key to unlock the closet and gain entrance. He found that
someone had vandalized the cross-wire on the 110 hardware. Approximately
the first 50 pair had been partially pulled away from the wall field and
was crimped into a ball. It does not appear the cross-wire was
completely disconnected for the majority of the services. As of now we
have 12 no dial tone trouble reports in hand. John returned to the
Control Center to get the necessary cross-wire information from ICE9 and
he is returning to Building 1 as I type this. John feels he can return
service on the no dial tones this morning. Connie went with John to
further
survey the damage and to see if there was anything we could do to
prevent this type of incident in the future. She will send out a message
later today with her comments.
