There has been allot of movement in E40 over the last several months and
I am sure you all are aware that the mail center needs to be updated. I
first would like to give some of the newer employees a little education on
what MIT Mail Services procedures are. MIT Mail Services sorts and delivers
the mail by building and room number not by employees names. Mail pieces we
receive without a building and room number are delayed because this mail
must be manually processed using the online directory. Forwarding of an
individuals mail is the responsibility of the addressee or the department
from which the employee has moved from. MIT Mail Services will forward mail
for an entire department when it moves but once again we do not forward
individuals mail we simply do not have the technology or the man power to do
so. All associates housed in a department ,lab or center should use the same
delivery address for their mail. You could imagine if all the individuals
where to use there own room number, their service would be slowed
considerably.
I have attached a current listing of what exists in the mail center.
Please look it over I would like to relabeled the mail center in the near
future and correctly align the mail slots in numeric order to improve the
quality of delivery. I have spoken to a few of you already and the subject
of placing names on the mail slots seems to come up constantly. I have
suggested for your internal use at E40 that a master alphabetical list of
employees in the building and there correct address could be placed above
the sortation cases. But please remember this would be for your internal use
and not for the Mail Service personnel sorting the mail. Please contact me
with any questions or corrections that must be made for you to correctly
receive your mail and I would be glad to meet with any of you. I will notify
you all when I will relabel the mail center.
