The mouse processing on this machine has developed a severe
problem. At random intervals, the cursor will freeze in one spot, and no
mouse events will be processed. Keyboard input is still accepted though,
and if one has the "good fortune" to have the cursor go on strike in an
active window, it is possible to logout. Rebooting the machine fixes the
problem, but this is only temporary, as it re-occurs after some time.
The machine is under service contract, and appropriately tagged.
Serial number: 26-0003839
The interval between these problems has been steadily
shortening, which points to a hardware failure. Replacing the mouse
would probably be a good first remedy. There are important files on this
machine's local disk, so under no circumstances should it be randomly
re-installed. If any major work (i.e. other than replacing the mouse)
is indicated, please contact me to make arrangements before it is to be
done.
