I tried logging in twice after someone who I think had no problems with
the machine. Both times I got the error message:
> Unable to change directory to "".
> You are in "/" instead.
No windowmanager started up (default: mwm), not even getting the
standard Athena prompt (only getting "%"). whoami returns:
> Intruder alert.
finger doesn't think that there is anyone logged in at the machine,
although klist and tokens shows that I have Kerberos tickets and AFS
tokens in my name. marc suggests that I am not in /etc/passwd, but I
am in it as normal:

last shows that these are the only people who have logged on since
reboot earlier today, and no one has stayed logged in for more than
brief minute or two before logging out. Many reboots just today, lots
of which are preceded by a reboot. At least logging in as root gives
normal results.
Just noticed: even when I log my account out, then re-log in as root, I
still get personal zephyr's to <message,personal,pshuang>.
Something is seriously losing here.
